Being a lawyer isn’t for everyone. Even for thousands of students who make their way through law school, many of them find themselves wishing they had pursued a different line of work. And then on the other side of the fence you have lawyers who truly love what they do. They enjoy decrypting the law, helping out clients, and at the end of the day, they enjoy accepting payments for their services.

For any of you who veraciously enjoy being a lawyer, it’s time to put down the briefcase for a minute or two and start to learn how to expand your law firm. And fortunately, you can do this without ever having to leave your desk. That’s right. An expansion of your client base can take place by starting a blog.

    What is Blogging?

Blogging is a form of marketing that allows you to express yourself in a personable way. You can highlight your expertise in the areas of law that you specialize in, while at the same time boosting your presence across the web, which is key in securing new clients.

It’s time to attract new clients. It’s time to start blogging.

    Benefits of Blogging

There are more than 759,000 people in the United States who are lawyers. Wow! To differentiate yourself from other lawyers, you need to prove that your services are better. And more importantly, you need to validate that you have what it takes to win cases consistently.

How do you prove this though? It starts by actually being good at what you do, which means winning cases. And then it involves you spreading the word of how good you are via your blog. Not every posting has to be a form of self-promotion. Rather, many of your postings should directly relate to your line of work, showing that you are an expert in your field.

When people come across your postings, hopefully, they will find them interesting. And as a result, they will share your postings with people who they think will enjoy reading them. In return, you’ll receive free advertising. Keeping this in mind, it’s vital that you include share buttons on your postings, as this will make it easier for readers to share your postings.

Blogging is also an excellent way to gain credibility, especially when you allow other professional, well-respected lawyers to guest post. When your readers see that you are associated with other credible lawyers, this will naturally enhance your own credibility. And as any ethical lawyer will tell you, credibility goes further than anything in this profession.

As a lawyer, you know firsthand how exhausting your work can get. There are probably many days that you sit behind a computer screen researching for hours on end the ins-and-outs of specific laws. And while such research is valuable in helping you handle your cases, you can’t expect to do this for the rest of your life and not get burnt out. Fortunately, blogging provides you with the opportunity to break up the monotony.

Once you get in the hang of blogging, you’ll quickly find yourself craving the moments of the day that you pen a blog. From sharable details regarding one of your latest cases to talking about how you disagree or agree with certain laws, your blog allows you to truly express yourself.

If you happen to not be that great of a writer, there’s no need to fret. You can still blog. In fact, it’s highly suggested that you do your best to pen a first-draft of each blog posting that you want to create, followed then by having a someone on your team or a professional copywriter clean up the draft so that it’s in publishable form.

    The Takeaway

Starting your own blog on your law firm website should be started sooner rather than later. From increased web presence to establishing a reputable brand for yourself, blogging can be one of your most valuable marketing tools.
