“The biggest challenge that I thought I could not get through, ended up being the biggest gift and the biggest opportunity for me to open up my mind and my body and soul to a whole new level.”– Steve Rodgers
Steve Rodgers has had long and varied career. Having started off in hospitality, he then moved onto being a real estate salesman. From there he went to management and eventually ended up as a hiring and firing CEO. In today’s show Steve and Jacob chat about how Steve used transition to change his life, the importance of building relationships and his new book – Lead to Gold.
“Once you start reaching out to what your real purpose is and what your real mission is, it’s amazing how the universe will conspire to make it happen.”– Steve Rodgers Play Podcast
When we get put in a difficult situation, we can either let it set us back, or we can use it as the beginning of a new phase in our lives. This is what today’s guest – Steve Rodgers has learned through his long and varied career, and it is this idea which he uses in his consultancy practise and talks about in his new book – ‘Lead to Gold’. In today’s show Steve talk to Jacob about how his life story has helped to shape this theory, why building relationships are so important and how religion helps to keep him motivated.

Steven, welcome to the show. I hope you’re having a beautiful Friday.
Steven: Thank you, Jacob. Yeah, awesome Friday. No doubt about that.
Jacob: Very nice. We actually connected through a common friend of ours, John Assaraf, who is an inspiring person with his remarkable work.
As we’re going to be attending this amazing event in a few days of bringing in all these entrepreneurs, I was very interested to learn about your story rising from a corporate job, becoming the top person, and just doing very interesting things with your clients today.
So why don’t you tell us a little bit about your background from the start and what led you to do what you’re doing today?
Steve: Sure, will do. Thank you, Jacob. And thank you so much for having me on the show. I’ve got some of your previous feed there and I really am intrigued by what you’re doing, so I’m honored to be on. So thank you for that.
Well, my story is I went from the East Coast to the Mid-West, eventually ended up in California and they had to say “Go west young man, go west.” I eventually ended up in California which I’ve never looked back since I was 21 years old.
I went from being in the hotel restaurant industry. I involved in managing country clubs and dinner theaters and I was in the whole hospitality space for many years I was around 28, 25, 26. And then I ended up getting my real estate license and ended up realizing that was a great path for me.
So I started helping people buy and sell homes. I went from being a salesman into management and leadership and realize that was a really a great path for me. From leadership, that really kind of a depth to water if you will. I just really resonated with helping and inspiring, [lead 00:02:59] others.
My long career path was with a company called Prudential California Realty. It was a franchise here in Southern California that was owned by a gentleman named Steve Games and his partner Nyda. They were one of the first Prudential’s in the country. But when I [blame them 00:03:14], they had maybe 10 offices in San Diego in 1994.
I had left the company called Grubb and Ellis Real Estate which was a commercial and residential firm as a salesman and a manager there and join this force with the Prudential Group. Over, I ended up being with them for 15 years. So from 1994 till almost 2009, I was part of that company.
